Balayage is a highlighting technique used at our Tampa hair salon that is designed to create very natural-looking highlights that grow out without developing a noticeable and obvious root. This technique is all the rage amongst celebrities and is rapidly growing in popularity.

When the hair is highlighted with the Balayage process, the highlights are painted on by hand in a fluid, sweeping motion that moves from the base to the ends of the hair. At the base, the product is applied very lightly, and the amount gradually increases as it is painted through the ends. The result is a subtle, "sun-kissed" look. As the hair grows out, the root is less noticeable.Balayage is a highlighting technique that is designed to create very natural-looking highlights that grow out without developing a noticeable and obvious root.  The difference between foil highlights and Balayage highlights is that foil highlights have the same amount of lightened hair from root to end. Balayage highlights have less lightened hair at the roots and more lightened towards the ends. This is how the colorists at our Tampa hair salon achieve a European look of hair color.

The Balayage technique emerged in Paris in the 1970s. After crossing the pond to the United States, Balayage became extremely popular during the late 1990s. The word "balayage" is means "to sweep" in French, a reference to the method in which the color is applied.
